Latest jewellery fashion has outshone the bling and embraced a style that is unique and exclusive.
While gold and silver ornaments still get picked up the most during the festive season, one-off statements pieces are making a buzz among women who like to experiment a bit with their clothing and accessories. Here are some of the creative trends…
Pencil pickings
Colourful pencil beads are arranged creatively to make ornaments such as bracelets, necklaces and earrings.The tiny pencil pieces are tied with brass or nylon wire to create a motley collection of accessories.
Wooden wonders
Wooden jewellery items often retain the original wooden hue or a slightly varnished tinge including square-shaped bangles, bracelets, beaded necklaces, earrings as well as carved pendants. Bamboo is also a favourite material among creative jewellery makers. These items include coiled bangles and quirky hairpins.
Paper patterns
Handcrafted paper accessories are quite a rage among the young and old. The light-weight quilling jewellery items are made by rolling narrow strips of paper into scrolls, and then putting them together to form a filigree.
Glass gems
Bespoke varieties of jewellery are made by fusing glass into different sizes and shapes, which are then glued to bracelets, necklaces and other accessories.
Put to reuse
Crown corks are painted in bright colours, featuring prints like peacock feather, Om symbol and many more. These come in as earrings, pendants and bracelets; the caps of plastic bottles are also wrapped in chiffon lace, dipped in dye and then adorned with brass wire, to be transformed into jewellery items such as brooch-cum-pendants; soda cans are also recycled to make earrings and ear clips, featuring a variety of patterns such as flowers, butterfly and stars. Meanwhile, the tabs of these cans are bundled up in crochet and nylon cords and made into accessories such as earrings, bracelets and wallet.
